Chap. 542.—An ACT to incorporate the Hobson Lodge, No. 23, Free
and Accepted Ancient York Ma-ons.
Approved March 19, 1884.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
James H. Cunningham, Joseph B. Johnson, and Richard T.
Coy, and their successors in office to be elected in accord-
ance with the by-laws of the body hereinafter named, be and
they are hereby declared a body politic and corporate, by the
name of Hobson Lodge, number twenty-three, Free and
Accepted Ancient York Masons, of Manchester; and by that
name shall have perpetual succession and a common seal, may
sue, plead, and be impleaded, and do all and every act neces-
sary to enjoy the powers hereinafter conferred.
2. That said trustees and their successors in office, may
take, by purchase, gift, devise, or bequest, and hold real and
personal estate in county, and lease, rent, sell, or
otherwise dispose of the same, in such manner as to them
may seem most advantageous: provided that such real estate
shall not exceed two acres, and that both real and personal
estate shall not exceed in value three thousand dollars. And
the said corporation shall have power to borrow money for
the purpose of improving its real estate, and may execute
mortgages or deeds of trust upon the said property to secure
the payment of the same.
3. The objects of the corporation hereby created, shall be
to take care of the sick and destitute, and provide for the
burial of the dead. |
4. The said corporation shall have power to make and
adopt a constitution and by-laws; make rules and regulations
for the admission and expulsion of members, and for their
government; the election of officers, and to define their duties,
and safe-keeping and protection of their property and funds:
provided the same be not inconsistent with the constitution
and laws of the United States and of this state.
5. This act shal] be in force from its passage.
