Chap. 482.—JOINT RESOLUTION authorizing the governor to have
the great seal of the commonwealth engraved on the Washington
Monument.
Approved March 17, 1&s4.
Whereas each state of the United States nas conurivuced
to the Washington national monument, a block of native
granite or marble for insertion in the monument—Vi Irginia
having contributed hers by resolution of the general assem-
bly adopted February eighth, cighteen hundred and tifty,
and that. the insignia of each. state. except that of Vir-
ginia, are represented on their respective blocks. and it is
eminently proper that Virginia's block should bear on its
face her chief insignia. the figure which represents the genius
of the commonwealth, in addition to the inscription now on
the said block,
Resolved (the house of delegates concurring), That the
governor be and is hereby authorized, alter obtaining per-
mission therefor from the proper authorities, to cause the
devices of the obverse of the new or correct great seal of the
commouwealth, to be engraved on the said block. and if suf-
ficient space cannot be found on said block for these devices,
then to cause a new block of native marble or granite, in
licu of the old one, to be prepared and engraved for insertion,
ax before mentioned.
This joint resolution shall be in force trom its passage.
