Chap. 447.—An ACT to incorporate the Toilers Friend Mutual Bene-
ficial Association of America.
Approved March 15, 1884.
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Charles Maurice, M. R. Lloyd, Captain Charles W. Burr,
Lloyd Kein, George O. Lloyd, and Doctor J. P. Wilson, and
their associates, be, and they are hereby created a body
politic and corporate, with perpetual succession, by the name
and style of the Toilers Friend Mutual Beneficial Associa-
tion of America, and by that name are hereby made capable
in law and equity to sue and be sued, to plead and be
impleaded, contract and be contracted with, to make, have,
and use a common seal, and to alter and renew the same at
pleasure, and shall have the right to take and hold, by pur-
chase, gift, or otherwise, real or personal estate not to exceed
twenty thousand dollars in value, or so much as may be
necessary to carry out the objects of this company, and to
dispose of and convey the same at pleasure.
2. The objects of this company are for the purpose of
lightening the burdens of the poor, abating privations and
suffering, promoting industry, and providing relief for widows
and orphans, and indigent persons, by voluntary contributions.
3. Any one between the ages of twelve years and fifty
years of age, of good moral repute, and whose application
may be proven in accordance with the by-laws of said com-
pany, may become a member thercof.
4, The corporators shall elect from their own members a
president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer, and ap-
point all other subordinate officers and agents necessary to
conduct the affairs of the company, prescribe their duties,
and affix such compensation for their service as they may
deem proper.
5. The corporators shall adopt such by-laws and regula-
tions as they may deem necessary for the government of the
company, fill all vacancies in their own body, and of the
officers and agents, that may occur by death, resignation, or
otherwise, and any three of them shall constitute a quorum
to do business. os
6. This act shall be in force from its passage.
