Chap. 423.—An ACT to amend and re-enact sections 2 and 7 of an act
approved March 29, 1877, entitled an act to establish a department of
Agriculture, Mining and Manufacturing for the state.
In force March 14, 1884.
1. Be itenacted by the gencral assembly of Virginia, That
sections two and seven of an act approved March twenty-
ninth, eighteen hundred and seventy-seven, entitled an act to
establish a department of Agriculture, Mining and Manufac-
turing for the state, be amended and re-enacted so as to read
as follows:
§2. That said department shall be under the control and
manavement. of one officer, to be known as the commissioner
of agriculture, who shall be elected by the general assembly.
Said commissioner shall be allowed one clerk, to be chosen
by himself, to assist the commissioner in the discharge of the
clerical duties of his office. The office of said commissioner
shall be at the capital of the state, and an office and furniture
necessary for the transaction of the duties of his office, shall
be furnished him by the board-of public works.
&7. That the office of said commissioner shall continue for
two years from the date of his election; and he shall perform
the duties of the same for said leneth of time, unless removed
in the manner now prescribed by law, for the removal of off-
cers of the state government.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
