Chap. 419.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 21 of chapter 64
of the Code of 18738, in relation to Ferries.
Approved March 13, 1884.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section twenty-one of chapter sixty-four of the Code of cigh-
teen hundred and seventy-three, be amended and re-enac ted
so as to read as follows:
§21. Inthe case of a water course over which there is a
lawfully established ferry, if any person, his horse, carriage,
or other vehicle, be transported for reward over such water
course within half a mile of any such ferry, any person so
transporting the same, shall, for each offence, be liable to a
fine of not less than ten nor more than fitty dollars; the pro-
ceeding to be by warrant issued by a justice of the peace, or
by indictment found by a grand jury in the name of the
commonwealth; and tbe fines, when recovered, to be paid
one-half to the informer and the other half into the state
treasury.
2. ‘This act shall be in force trom its passage.
