Chap. 404,—An ACT to incorporate the Richmond Art Association.
Approved March 13, 1884.
Whereas there has existed for some time past, in the city
of Richmond, an association of persons known as Richmond
Art association, and in order that the association may more
effectually carry out the purposes of their organization, an
act of incorporation is desired; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Marion J. Dimmock, A. S. Groser, W. LL. Sheppard, C. P.
Price, and such other persons as are now, or may hereafter
hecome members of the association, be, and they are hereby
made a body politic and corporate, by the name and style of
Richmond Art Association, and by that name may sue and
be sued, plead and be impleaded, in all the courts of the com-
monwealth.
2. The object of this corporation shall be: extension of
knowledge of the fine arts, and cultivation of the taste for
the same; instruction in all branches of art, and their appli-
eation to mechanical and industrial purposes and housebold
deccu ration.
3. The chief office of the corporation shall be in the city 0:
Richmond, and it may take and hold such property, botk
real and personal, as may be necessary or advantageous to
the purposes of the corporation; and it may make such by.
laws, rules and regulations, consistent with the laws of this
state and the United States, as it may deem proper for the
government of its members, the management of its affairs,
and for the use, enjoyment and control of its property.
There shall be no personal Hability on the members of the
corporation, for any debts or contracts of the corporation.
The legislature reserves to itself the right to modify or repeal
this act at pleasure.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage
