Chap. 223.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 16 of chapter 64
of the Code of 1873, in relation to Ferries.
Approved March 3, 1884.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section sixteen, chapter sixty- dour of the Code of cishteen
hundred and seventy- -three, be amended and re-enacted so as
to read as follows:
$16. The order for increasing the rates at any ferrv may
be made on the application of “the proprietor thereof’, atter
notice of the intended application shall have been published
at the front door of the courthouse, on the first day of each
of the two preceding terms. And an order for reducing the
rates at any ferry may be made after the proprietor thereof
shall under an order entered at one term, have been sum-
moned to appear at the next term, to show why such reduc-
tion should not be made. Such order, either for increasing
or reducing, may be made by the county court of the county
in which the ferry is situate. Where a ferry is over a water-
course which is the division line between two counties, the
order shall not take effect until it be made by the court of
each of the two counties.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
