Chap. 12.--An ACT to amend an actentitled an act to provide for the
election and qualification of county officers, approved March 8, 1878.
Approved January 18, 1884.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section three of an act entitled an act to provide for the elec-
tion and qualification of county officers, approved March
eighth, eighteen hundred and seventy- -five, be amended and
re-cnacted 80 as to read as follows:
§3. It shall be the duty of each county jude in this state,
upon the recommendation of the board of supervisors of his
county, at the June term of his court, in the year eighteen
hundred and seventy-five, and every four years thereafter, to
appoint for each county in which he holds his court, one county
surveyor and one superintendent of the poor; said officers
shall enter upon the discharge ot their duties, on the first day
of July next after their appointment, and their duties, liabili-
ties, and compensation shall in all other respects, be the same
as now provided by law, relating to officers of county surveyor
and superintendent of the poor, respectively: and provided
further, that the board of supervisors may, at any time, fill
any vacancy occurring in either of said offices.
