Chap. 49.—An ACT to legalize payments heretofore made by the audi-
tor to the lunatic asylums, and appropriating certain other monies.
Approved January 29, 1882.
Whereas the general assembly failed to make appropria-
tions for the support of lunatic asylums for the years eigh-
teen bundred and eighty and cighteon hundred and eighty-
one; and whereas the board of directors of said asylums were
under the necessity of borrowing money for the support of
their respective institutions, which money so borrowed with
the interest thereon, cannot be paid until requsite amounts
be appropriated by the legislature; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the auditor of public accounts be and he is hereby authorized
and directed to pay out of any money in the treasury not
otherwise appropriated, the sum of sixty thousand dollars
to the board of directors of each of the three lunatic asy-
lums, for the purpose of discharging the obligations assumed
by them respectively, as aforesaid.
2. The auditor of public accounts is hereby further directed
to pay out of any money inthe treasury not otherwise appro-
priated, to the Eastern lunatic asylum the sum of thirty-six
thousand dollars, to the Central lunatic asylum the sum of
twenty-five thousand dollars, and to the Western lunatic
asylum the sum of thirty thousand dollars, to meet current
expenses, and which said sums shall be credited respectively
against the annual appropriation hereafter to be made for the
support of cach of said asylums.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
Chap. 49.—An ACT to empower the trustees of Liberty Hill school-
house and church to sell and convey certain property.
Approved April 14, 1882.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the trustees of Liberty Hill schoolhouse and church, in Gray-
son county, or either of them, be and they are hereby author-
ized to sell publicly or privately, for cash or upon credit, as
they may deem expedient, the church and school property
aforesaid, conveyed to them on the twenty-fifth day of De-
cember, in the year of eighteen hundred and sixty-two, by
W. M. Grubb; and upon the sale thereof to make all needful
conveyances, and to take such securities for the purchase
money as to them may seem meet; and the said trustee or
trustees are hereby authorized and required to re-invest the
proceeds of the said sale in the purchase of a new site and
the erection of a church and school building thereon, for the
use of said Liberty Hill school and the worshipping congre-
gation of said church; but the purchaser shall not be bound
to see to the application of the purchase money.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
