Chap. 8. —An ACT for the relief of the tax-payers of the county of
~ King William.

Whereas Thomas W. Haynes, late treasurer of King Wil-
liam county, departed this life on the fourth day of Novem-
ber, eighteen hundred and seventy-seven, and his successor
did not qualify until the twenty-sixth day of November, eigh-
teen hundred and seventy-seven, in consequence whereof no
opportunity has been afforded to the tax-payers of said county
to avail themselves of the rebate of two per centum provided
tor by law in the case of persons paying their taxes before
the first day of December, and they have been subjected to
the charge of five per centum provided for by law in the
case of persons failing to pay one-half of their taxes before
the first day of December; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the treasurer of King William county be and he is hereby
authorized to rebate two per centum on the taxes and levies
of all tax-payers who shall pay all taxes and levies assessed
against them for the year eighteen hundred and seventy-
seven, ‘before the first day of February, eighteen hundred
and seventy-eight; and that he shall not add the five per
centum provided for by law to be added to the taxes and
levies of all persons who might fail to pay one-half of the
same before the first day of December, to the taxes and
levies of any person who shall pay the said half before the
first day of February, eighteen hundred and seventy-eight;
and the time for the first settlement of the said treasurer of
King William county, as now provided for by law, is hereby
extended to the fifteenth day of February, eighteen hundred
and seventy-eight.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
