Chap. 51.—An ACT to prevent the obstruction of water courses in
Wise and Buchanan counties.
Approved February 6, 1878.
1. Be-it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be unlawful for any person to fell timber, or roll rock
into, or otherwise obstruct the navigation of the following
named streams in Wise and Buchanan counties, viz: the
prongs of Big Sandy river, knowu as Levisa, Russel’s, Mc-
Clure, Crane’s Nest, and Pound and Guesses’ river, Bear
creek, Powel’s river, Luna creek, and south fork of Powel’s
river: provided that this act shall not apply to water-gates
and mill-dams.
2. Any person so offending, shall be: guilty of a misde-
meanor, and, upon conviction, shall be fined not less than
five dollars nor more than twenty dollars for each offence,
recoverable before a justice of the peace.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
