Chap. 37.—JOINT RESOLUTION directing auditor of public ac-
counts to collect statistical information, to tabulate the same, and to
keep the same in printed form in his office for public use.
Approved January 29, 1878.
1. Be it resolved by the House of Delegates (the Senate
concurring), That the auditor of public accounts be required,
in the interest of intelligent legislation, to forward an official
circular-letter to the auditors or comptrollers of each state;
for a statement of the rate of state taxations; the valuations
established by their laws as the basis of taxation on their
real and personal properties; the gross amount at the pres-
ent time of their respective state debts and the per centages
of interest thereon ; the gross amounts assessed upon their
real and personal properties respectively; the gross amounts
of their respective revenues, and for any other information
of material value to an accurate understanding of their sys-
tems, and the burdens laid upon their respective properties
by state taxation; especially as to the laws and practice of
assessment—whether to the full values or percentage thereof.
2. And it shall be the duty of the first auditor to tabulate
the information obtained from the respective state authorities,
together with the populations obtained from the latest cen-
sus, and to keep the same in printed form in his office, for
the use and information of the members of the general assem-
bly, the state officers and offivial corps, and the general
public.
3. This resolution to be in force from its passage.
