Chap. 308.—An ACT authorizing Shields and Brother to construct a
wharf on Occahannock creek.
Approved March 14, 1878.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Samuel J. Shields and John T. Shieids, of Accomac county,
trading under the name and style of Shields and Brother,
their heirs and assigns, shall be and are hereby authorized
to construct, at their own expense, a wharf on their land
lying on Occahannock creek, below water-mark, in said
county, and shall have the right to charge, demand, and
receive, from all persons who may use the same, either for
lading or unlading vessels or steamers, or for vessels moored
to or laying at the said wharf, either for safety or for conve-
nience, whenever the use of said wharf is completed, such
fees as a compensation for the use of said wharf as may have
been agreed upon by and between the parties, or as have
heretofore been paid for the same or similar use: provided
that such wharf shall not obstruct or impair the free naviga-
tion of said creek: and provided also, that this act shall at
all times be under the control of the general assembly, and
may be amended or repealed as they may deem proper.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
