1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That

Isbell, J. R. Hall, I. C. Wells, C. S. Wells, A. D. Shotwell,
L. P. Jones, T. W. Gentry, M. A. McDonald, J. T. Rogers,
‘M. J. Brill, James Levier, M. F. Hudnall, J. H. Peay, John
L. Parr, D. A. Richardson, John A. Meanley, Savage Smith,

Snellings, F.C. D. Farmer, John Williams, their associates
and successors, be and are hereby incorporated and made a
body politic, under the name and title of The Odd Fellows’
Widows’ and Orphans’ Relief Association of Virginia; and
as such, shall have power to sue and be sued, contract and
be contracted with, plead and be impleaded, purchase, lease,
hold, rent, sell, and convey, in its corporate capacity, pro-
perty, real, personal, and mixed, and do all and any other
acts for the promotion of its objects, not inconsistent with
the constitutions and Jaws of this state and of the United
States, applicable to such corporations.
2. The objects of this association shall be, in general, the
promotion of the interest of the order known as the Inde-
pendent Order of Odd Fellows, and, in particular, the uniting
of all the members of said order in this’ state, and in any
other state of this Union, in the establishment of a widows’
and orphans’ relief fund,, from which, on the satisfactory
evidence of the death of a member of the association who
has complied with its lawful requirements, a sum of money
not exceeding five thousand dollars shall be paid to his
family, or as he may have directed.
3. The said association shall have a corporate seal for the
making and delivering of all legal acts and proceediugs, the
same to break and alter at pleasure.
4. The principal office of the said association shall be
located in the city of Richmond, Virginia, and any nine in
number of the said corporators, their associates and succes-
sors, shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of busi-
ness.
5. The said association may enact a constitution and by-
laws tor its government, and may alter and amend the same
at pleasure; and may elect a board of directors, trustees, and
such’ other officers as it may deem necessary and proper for
the carrying on of its lawful business. In all meetings of
the association, all the members, whether corporators or
other, shall have equal voice and vote.
6. The private property of the corporators, officers, and
members ot the said association, shall not be liable for the
payment of the debts of the association.
7. This act shall be in force from its passage.
