Chap. 277.—An ACT to amend and re-enact an act entitled an act to
provide for the working of roads and repairing bridges in the county
of Rappahannock, approved April 4, 1877, with reference to the col-
lection and application of the road tax in said county.

1. Be it enacted by the gencral assembly, That section
thirteen of an act entitled an act to provide tor the working
of roads and repairing bridves in the county of Rappahan-
nock, approved April fourth, eighteen hundred and seventy-
seven, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
§ 13. The board of road commissioners shall annually, by
the first day of August, through their clerk, furnish to the
treasurer of the county a statement of the road taxes levied
against each person in his district and the aggregate amount
of such tax; which taxes the treasurer shall collect in money
as other taxes are collected, and pay out on the warrant of the
board of the road commissioners for said district; he sha!l
keep a separate account with cach district for the road taxes
‘collected and paid out by him. The treasurer is authorized
to reccive in payment, or part payment of road taxes levied
on any tax-payer within any road district, a certificate of
the overseer of roads for such district, and countersigned by
the board of road commissioners, showing the amount due
such tax-payer for work and labor performed on the roads
of his district in excess of the amount of labor required
under the ninetecnth section of the act hereby amended.
The treasurer of the county, for the services required of
him under this section, shall be allowed a commission of five
er centum on the amount of road taxes collected by him.
he overseer shall expend so much of the money as may be
paid him by the treasurer, upon the warrant of the board of
road commissioners, as may be necessary, in connection with
this labor provided for in the nineteenth section of this act,
to keep his roads and bridges in order, and to pay for tools
and implements, and shall pay to the clerk of the board of
road commissioners, on the second Saturday in June of each
year, any surplus remaining in his hands, after deducting
such compensation for himself as shall be allowed by the
board.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
