Chap. 236.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section one of an act
entitlh-d an act to authorize the construction, alteration, and repair
of rounds in the countics of Carroll and Grayson, approved February
13, 1877.
Approved March 12, 1878.
1. Beit enacted by the gencral assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be lawful for the judges of the county courts of Car-
roll and Grayson counties to require any surveyor of the
public road, with such hands as are in his district or allotted
to him to keep his precinct of roads in repair, to aid and
assist, under the authority and superintendence of an over-
seer, Who may be appointed for that purpose to open any
new road that may be established by either of the said courts
In their respective counties, or to repair or change roads
already established: provided, however, that no person
required to work upon the public roads, shall be qompelled
to work more than four days in any one year in the con-
struction of any such new roads, repairs, and alterations as
aforesaid, or to travel more than five miles from bis place of
residence to perform such labor; nor shalt any overseer or
hands be allotted or required to work upon any “other road
than that to which he has been once assigned by order of
the court, under the provisions of this bill, until the work
upcn said road shall have been completed or abandoned.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
