Chap. 277.—An ACT to repeal the fence law as to a part of Clresa-
peake magisterial district, in the county of Elizabeth City.
Approved April 2, 1877.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That an act en-
titled an act relating to fences and for the protection of crops-
passed January twenty-sixth, cighteen hundred and sixty-six,
shall be, and the same is hereby repealed and declared in-
operative as to that portion of Chesapeake magisterial dis-
trict, in the county of Elizabeth City, comprising the section
of country included between the Chesapeake bay, Back river,
Harris’ creek, and a line beginning at a point on Harris’
creek, on the line between the lands of Whiting and Holston,
and running along that line to the line between the lands of
Whiting and Etherage; thence along that line to the main
road; thence across said road and along the line between
the Jands of Holston and Hubbard, and Holston and Roe, to the
Jand of Adolphus Guy; thence across the lands of Adolphus
Guy and Smith Guy to the line between the lands of George
Hawkins and W. A. G. W. Tapping’s heirs; thence along that
line to the land of John Bloxom; thence east across the land
of John Bloxom and across Long creek to Chesapeake bay.
2. That it shall be lawful for any of the freeholders resid-
ing within the bounds aforesaid to erect a gate across the
public highway where the line mentioned in the first section
of this act crosses the same: provided however, that the
county court of Elizabeth City county may discontinue the
said gate in the mode now prescribed by law, and when the
same shall be so discontinued this act shall be inoperative.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
