Chap. 231.—An ACT to provide for a general index to deeds, wills, and
fiduciary accounts, in counties or corporations that have not been
supplied.

t. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
in all counties or corporations in this state that have failed
to provide a general index to the deed, will-books, and record
of fiduciary accounts on file in the clerk’s office of such county
or corporation courts, the judges of the respective county
and corporation courts may, in their discretion, appoint a
suitable person, whose duty it shall be to make a ‘general i in-
dex to the deed-books of such county or corporation, in the
full name of the grantor or grantee; and a general index to
the will-books and record of fiduciary accounts; and the
judges of the said courts shall make certificate for a proper
allowance to such person, 80 appointed, as compensation for
the services performed under such order, which shall be cer-
tified by the judge of such county or corporation court to the
board of supervisors of such county, to be levied for, or tc
the common council of any corporation; and hereafter it shal
be the duty of the clerk of the said court to index all re
corded deeds, wills, and fiduciary accounts, as well in the gen
eral index as in the deed-books, will-books, and fiduciary ac
counts.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
