Chap. 42.—-An ACT to Extend a Credit of Twelve and Twenty-four
months from the Ratification of ae Bale ad pet anes interest in The

Company, and to Ratify an ‘Confirm all Acts done in Pursuance ef
the Provisions of the Act Approved March 20, 1878.

Whereas, by virtue of the provisions of an act entitled an
act to authorize the board of public works to sell the state’s
interest in The Upper Appomattox Company, approved
March twentieth, eighteen hundred and seventy-three, the
board of public works have sold the state’s interest in said
company, to the board of superintendents of said company,
for the sum of twelve thousand five hundred dollars; and
whereas, since the passage of the said act, and before the final
consummation of said sale, by the payment of the said sum.
of money, a great financial panic has occurred, which con-
tinues to paralyze every interest in the commonwealth, pub-
lic and private; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That tin
the board of superintendents of The Upper Appomattox UP
Company be allowed a credit of twelve months, from the par
nineteenth day of April, eighteen hundred and seventy-three, °°
upon one moiety of the sum of twelve thousand five hundred
dollars, agreed to be paid by them for the state’s interest in
the said Upper Appomattox Company, and a further credit
of twenty-four months upon the other moiety thereof, from
the said nineteenth day of April, eighteen hundred and sev-
enty-three, and that they pay interest at the rate of six per
centum per annum, upon the whole of the said sum from the
said date: provided, that no portion of the shares in the cap- sha
ital stock of said company sold by the state, to said company, Pot

2. All acts done by either of the contracting parties, in Act
pursuance of, and in accordance with the provisions of the ot
said act, approved March twentieth, eighteen hundred and
seventy-three, are hereby ratified and confirmed.
