Chap. 330.—An ACT to amend and re-enact Section 5 of an Act enti—
tled an Act to Incorporate the Town of Luray.
Approved April 80, 1874.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That .
section fifth of an act passed March twenty-fourth, eighteen
hundred and seventy-one, entitled an act to incorporate the
town of Luray, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as
follows:
“85, The sergeant of said town shall be a conservator of
the peace, and be vested with the full powers of a constable.
within the limits of said town; also have the power to arrest
offenders within one mile of said limits for offences commit-
ted within the limits of said town. And no license to sell Licenses tc
strong or spirituous liquors, wine, beer, ale or porter, or drinks “aver not
of like nature within said town, or within two miles of the authority f
bounds of said town, shall be granted by any person or per-~ ©
sons having the authority to grant licenses, unless the party
applying therefor shall produce to such person or persons the
certificate of the council of said town of its consent to the
granting of such license; and said sergeant shall collect the Sergeant t
town taxes, and may distrain and sell therefor in like man- tom &
ner as -a sheriff may distrain and sell for state taxes, and there!
shall have in other respects the power to enforce the collec-
tion thereof.”
