Chap. 269.—An ACT to incorporate the Trustees of Fidelity Lodge
Number Thirteen Hundred and Seventy-nine of the Grand United
Order of Odd-Fellows of the City of Richmond.

Whereas, there is established if the city of Richmond, a
benevolent institution, known as Fidelity Lodge Number
thirteen hundred and seventy-nine, of the Grand United Or-
der of Odd-Fellows, which has for its object mutual aid and
assistance to its members in time of sickness, the burying of
deceased members, the support of their widows, and the edu-
cation of their orphans; and whereas, it is believed that the
facilities of the said institution, for the accomplishment of
its benevolent purposes, would be greatly promoted by ob-
taining an act of incorporation of the trustees of the said
Fidelity Lodge Number thirteen hundred and seventy-nine,
of the Grand United Order of Odd-Fellows: Therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Josiah Crump, Henry Watkins, William H. Jones, James H.
Bowser, R. ii. Johnson, William L. Johnson, Fleming W.
Lewis, Lucius Morris and William Fray, and their successors,
be and they are hereby appointed a body politic and corpo-
rate, by the name and style of the Trustees of Fidelity Lodge
Number thirteen hundred and seventy-nine, of the Grand
United Order of Odd-Fellows of the city of Richmond; and
by that name shall have a perpetual succession and common
seal, may contract and be contracted with, sue and be sued,
may acquire, receive, hold, possess and enjoy, and may rent,
sell, convey, invest, and otherwise manage or dispose of, as to
them may seem most conducive to the interest and promo-
tion of the benevolent purposes of the said Fidelity Lodge
Number thirteen hundred and seventy-nine, of the Grand
United Order of Odd-Fellows of the city of Richmond, all
lands, money, or other. property, real or personal, which may
have been, or which may be given, or otherwise acquired, for
the use of the said Fidelity Lodge Number thirteen hundred
and seventy-nine, of the Grand United Order of Odd-Fellows
of the city of Richmond; and the said trustees and their suc-
cessors, shall hold office as trustees no longer than they re-
main members of the said .Fidelity Lodge Number thirteen
hundred and seventy-nine, of the Grand United Order of Odd-
Fellows of the city of Richmond, or till their successors en-
ter upon the discharge of their duties as trustees: provided,
that the sum of money so acquired, shall not exceed twenty
thousand dollars: and provided, that the amount of land held
by them shall not exceed a third of an acre in the city of
Richmond.
2. The said trustees and their successors, as a board, shall
have power to fill vacancies in their own body, the persons
to fill such vacancies to be chosen from the said Fidelity
Lodge, number thirteen hundred and seventy-nine of the
‘Grand United Order of Odd Fellows of the city of Richmond,
appointed according to the laws and rules of the aforesaid
idelity Lodge, number thirteen hundred and seventy-nine
of the Grand United Order of Odd Fellows of the city of
Richmond, and shall have power to appoint such officers as
may be requisite, and shall exact from any of them such bonds
or other security in such penalty as the trustees shall direct,
conditioned for the faithful performance of their duties, and
the bonds of the secretary and treasurer of said Lodge and
other officers of whom bonds may be required, may be made
payable to said trustees: provided, that nothing herein con-
tained shall be construed as authorizing said company to es-
tablish any lottery or gift enterprise, or to dispose of any
property by lot or chance.
3. Three trustees shall constitute a quorum for the trans-
action of business, but it shall require a majority of all the
trustees to constitute a quorum for the sale of real estate.
4. This act shall take effect from its passage, and shall be
subject to amondment, modification or repeal, at the pleasure
-of the general assembly.
