Chap. 264.—An ACT to incorporate The Saint Mary’s Catholic Benev-
olent Society of Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Approved April 28, 1874.
1. Be it enacted by the genéral assembly, That Thomas
Griffin, M. J. Griffin, P. McCracken, Thomas B. Leonard, A.
S. Ellery, and T. McCracken, together with such other per-
sons as are now associated with them as members of Saint
Mary’s Catholic Benevolent Society of Fredericksburg, Vir-
inia, and their successors be and they are hereby created a
Fody politic and corporate, by the name and style of Saint
Mary’s Catholic Benevolent Society of Fredericksburg, and
by that name shall have perpetual succession and a common
seal; may contract and be contracted with, sue and be sued,
plead and be impleaded, receive and hold to them and their
successors forever, any land, tenements, rents, goods and
chattels of what kind soever, which may be devised or given
to the said Saint Mary’s Catholic Benevolent Society or pur-
chased for the use of the same and also to lease, rent, sell, or
otherwise dispose of the said property as shall be deemed
best for the good of the said society: provided, the property
so held by the said society shall not exceed ten thousand
dollars.
2. That the members of the said society or such members
thereof as they shall ordain to be a quorum for such purpose,
shall have power to make sich constitution, by-laws, rules
and regulations not contrary to the laws of the state of Vir-
ginis and of the United States, as they shall consider proper
r the government of the said society and its officers, to ap-
point and remove such officers, to provide for the admission
and expulsion of members, and require such fees and fines
and contributions as they shall think requisite for the pur-
se of the said society.
3. That the said Thomas Griffin, M. J. Griffith, P. McCracken,
A. 8. Ellery, T. McCracken, and their associate members of
Saint Mary’s Catholic Benevolent Society of Fredericksburg,
Virginia, may give, transfer or subscribe to the said society
hereby incorporated, which said society is hereby empowered
to receive, hold, and use all moneys, books, blanks, and other
property now owned or hereafter owned or held by the mem-
ers of the said Saint, Mary’s Catholic Benevolent Society of
Fredericksburg.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
