Chap. 235.—An ACT to amend and re-enact the 10th Clause of the 7th
Section of the 78th Chapter of the Code of Virginia (ed{ftion of 1878),
in Relation to Public Free Schools. :

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That c
clause ten of section seven of chapter seventy-eight of the 3
Code of Virginia (edition of eighteen hundred and seventy- ls
three), be amended and re-enacted so as to reali as follows: §%

Tenth. To approve of the appointment of a first and art
second clerk for the office of the superintendent of public in- 1°
struction, upon the nomination of that officer: provided, that bh
the compensation of such officers shall be fixed by the board 3
of education, not to exceed that allowed by law to other first
and second clerks in the other state offices. The first clerk pn
shall also act as secretary of the board of education, but for
such extra service shall not receive any extra pay.
