Chap. 234.—An ACT to incorporate the Valley Educational Association
of Shenandoah County, Virginia.
Approved April 24, 1874.
Whereas, it is represented that John J. Stoneburner, D. W.
Prescott, John A. Sauen, P. Belew, J. D. Milligan, George W.
Koontz, J. C. McDonald, William J. Dinges, James N. Swann,
Joseph Conner and others, have associated themselves for the
urpose of erecting school houses in Madison township, in
henandoah county; and believing that, by prompt and_judi-
cious measures, the object in view can be accomplished, to
effect which corporate privileges and facilities are deemed
expedient: :
. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That the persons above named, and such others as may here.
after be associated with them under.this charter, be and they
are hereby created a body politic and corporate, under the
name and style of the Valley Educational Association, for
the purpose of erecting one or more school houses; and to
that end, all real and personal estate now held by them for 1
the purpose aforesaid, or hereafter acquired therefor, whether f
by purchase, gift, devise or donation in any way, is hereby
vested in said corporation for the purpose aforesaid: provi-
ded, that the amount of property held at any one time shall
not exceed one hundred thousand dollars.
2. The said corporation is hereby invested with power to F
buy, sell and deal in real estate and personal property, and »
upon such terms, and in such manner, as to them shall seem
most expedient and best calculated to effect the objects and
purposes aforesaid. The said corporation may sell at private P
sale, expose at public auction, or in such other manner as to ”
them shall seem best calculated *to promote the object and
purpose aforesaid, all or any part of their real and personal
estate: provided, that the property to be held and owned by »
said company shall not be exempt from any tax imposed by ®
the laws.of the state on other property of similar character.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage. —¢
