Chap. 230.—An ACT giving the consent of this State to the purchase
by the United States of a tract of land in the county of Henrico, and
of two parcels of land in the town*of Danville, to be used for Military
Cemeteries.

Preamble Whereas it is represented by Theo. J. Echerson, captain
First. That certain piece or parcel of land deeded to the
United States September fifteenth, eighteen hundred and
seventy-three, by R. Heber Nelson, Salley B. Nelson, Ethe-
linde Nelson and Luciel Nelson, for national cemeteries, sit-
uated in the township of ‘Verina, in the county of Henrico,
bounded and described as beginning at a point three feet
south of the westerly Grogngation of the present southerly
boundary line of the Glendale national cemetery, and three
feet west of the southerly prolongation of the present wes-
terly boundary line of said cemetery, running thence south
eighty degrees east, and on a line parallel with the present
southerly line of said cemetery and three feet therefrom,
three hundred and six feet and three inches; thence north
eleven degrees east, parallel with the present easterly boun-
dary line of said cemetery and three feet distant therefrom,
two hundred and eighty-four feet and six inches; thence
north, seventy-nine degrees west, parallel with the present
northerly boundary line of said cemetery and three feet
therefrom, three hundred and four feet and one inch; thence
southerly three feet, and parallel with the northerly prolon-
gation of the present westerly boundary line of said ceme-
tery and three feet therefrom; thence easterly three feet to
the present northwesterly corner of said cemetery, and con-
tinuing easterly therefrom on the present northerly boun-
dary line of said cemetery to the present northeasterly cor-
ner thereof; thence southerly on the present easterly boun-
dary line of said cemetery to the southeasterly corner there-
of; thence westerly and on the present southerly boundary
line of said cemetery to a point three feet beyond and west
of the present westerly boundary line thereof; thence south-
erly three feet to the place-of beginning.

the town of Danville, and deeded to the United States July
nineteenth, eighteen hundred and seventy-three, by Thomas
D. Stokes, executor of N. T. Green, deceased, for a national
cemetery, bounded and described as beginning at a stone at
corner of Lee street and the road leading to the freedman’s
cemetery; thence south, twelve degrees thirty minutes east,
two hundred and seventy-five feet to a rock; thence south
seventy-six degrees west, seventy-three feet to a stone;
thence north, thirty-five degrees west, two hundred and
eighty-five feet to a stone on Lee street; thence north, sev-
enty-six degrees east, along the line of Lee street one hun.

Third. All that certain lot or parcel of land situated in

nineteenth, eighteen hundred seventy-three, for a national
cemetery, by the town of Danville, acting by George C.
Ayres, president of the council of said town, bounded and
described as beginning on Lee street at the northeast corner
of Greenhill cemetery; thence west, seventy-six degrees
east, along said street four hundred and twenty-nine feet tc
& stone; thence aouth, thirty-five degrees east, two hundred
and eighty-five feet to a stone; thence south, seventy-six de
Brees west, four hundred and twenty-nine feet to a stone2

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the cox.

and for this purpose only. But this consent.is given subje:-
to the following terms and conditions, to-wit:
First. That this state retains concurrent jurisdiction with
the United States over the said tracts of lands, so that court:
magistrates and officers of this state may take such cogni
zance, execute such process, and discharge such other legal
functions within the same as may not be incompatible wit!
the consent hereby given.
Second. That if the purposes of these grants should ceax
or there should be for five yeérs consecutively a failure ot
the part of the United States to use said places, or either ¢
them, for said purposes, then the jurisdiction hereby cede:
shall cease and determine as to the place so failing to be used
and the same shall revert to the commonwealth of Virginia
2. This act shall take effect from its passage.
