Chap. 227.—An ACT to incorporate the Virginia Turnpike Company.
Approved April 22, 1874.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it shall be
lawful to open books for receiving subscriptions to an amount
not exceeding fifty thousand dollars, in shares of twenty-five
dollars each, to constitute a joint capital stock, for construct-
ing a turnpike road from Alexandria city to some point on
the Potomac river at or above the Long Bridge.
2. That the said books shal? be opened under the superin-
tendence of Richard Lloyd, Thomas Swann, John R. John-
ston, F. W. Windsor and Alexander Hunter,.or any two of
them, at such times and places and through such agents as
they or any two of them may designate. .
3. That when three thousand dollars of the said capital
shall be subscribed, then the subscribers, their personal re-
resentatives or assigns, shall be and they are hereby incor-
porated by the name and style of The Virginia Turnpike
Company, subject to all the provisions of the Code of Virgi-
nia relating to turnpike companies, so far as the same are
not inconsistent with this act.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
