Chap. 149.—An ACT to Authorize Ocean Lodge, No. 116, Ancient,
Free and Accepted Masons, to Borrow Money, and to execute a Deed
of Conveyance to secure the Payment of the Same.
Approved April 2, 1874.
Whereas, it is represented that Ocean Lodge, number one
hundred and sixteen, Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons,
has contracted a debt in the building of a Masonic temple,
in the county of Accomac, and that they are desirous of pay-
ing or securing the payment of the same; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it shall be
lawful for Benj. T. Gunter, Samuel T. Ross, Asa J. Crockett,
Thomas C. Kellam, John W. Edwards, William E. Jacob,
Isma W. Mears, and John R. Read, or a majority of them,
who are the legally constituted trustees of Ocean Lodge,
number one hundred and sixteen, Ancient, Free and Accepted
Masons, to borrow a sum of money not exceeding two thou-
sand dollars; said sum to be borrowed in such sums and at
such times as they may deem proper, for the purpos® of pay-
ing off whatever indebtedness may exist against said lodge
at the passage of this act, and to finish the same in such man-
ner as may be desired; and the said trustees, or a majority
of them, may execute a mortgage on the said Masonic tem-
tle, and all the property connected therewith, to secure the
payment of such sum or sums of money as may be borrowed
under the provisions of this act.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
