Chap. 131.—An ACT Requiring the County Judges of the Counties o:
Albemarle, King William, Sussex, and Surry to submit the questios
of Continuing or Repealing the Fence Law to the Voters of Town-
ships in their respective Counties upon certain conditions.
Approved March 27, 1874.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it shall be
the duty of the judges of the county courts of the counties
of Albemarle, King William, Sussex, and Surry, upon the
petition, in writing, of fifty freeholders in any township in
their respective counties, which petition may be apresented
either in term or vacation, to order the several officers con-
ducting elections in such township, at the times and places
for holding the first genera) election thereafter, to prepare a
separate ballot-box for each voting precinct, in which shall
be deposited the ballots of the then qualified voters who
shall desire to vote upon the question of continuing or re-
pealing the act passed January twenty-sixth, eighteen hun-
dred and sixty-six, relating to fences and for the protection
of crops. The said ballots shall be respectively as follows:
“For fence law,” “Against fence law”: provided, that notice
of the time and places of voting upon said question shall be
given by posting the same at the front door of the court-
ousé of such county and at each voting -precinct of such
township, and by publication in some newspaper, if there be
one published in such county, at least thirty days prior to
paid clection.
2. The manner of receiving and canvassing the ballots
cast at such election on said question, and making returns
and abstracts of the results thereof, shall conform in all re-
spects to the regulations prescribed by the general election
law of this state, except that the certificates of the judges of
clection shall be as follows:

3. If from such returns and abstracts of votes so cast on
he question aforesaid, it shall appear that three-fifths of the
yualified voters voting upon the question are in favor of re-
yealing said act, said act shall be, and is hereby repealed in
such township: provided, that such repeal shall not take
»ffect for nine months thereafter.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
