Chap. 113.—An ACT for the Relief of the Sureties of Charles Short.

¥ Approved March 16, 1874,
1.“Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the sure-
ties of Charles Short, late sheriff of Culpeper county, their
heirs, devisees, and personal representatives, are hereby re-
leased from the payment of damages on judgments in favor
of the commonwealth against them as sureties, rendered by
the circuit court of the city of Richmond, on the ninth day
of November, eighteen hundred and sixty-nine, for the sum
of nine hundred and thirty-four dollars and seventy-cight
cents, with interest on one hundred and thirty-eight dollars
and forty-one cents from second June, eighteen hundred and
sixty-eight, at the rate of twelve per centum per annum, and
on the remainder from the eighteenth day of March, eighteen
hundred and sixty-nine, at the rate of eight per centum per
annum, and one hundred and forty dollars and twenty-two
cents damages. But the sureties of said sheriff shall not
have the benefit of this act unless they or some one of them
shall, on or before the first day of May, eighteen hundred
and seventy-four, pay into the treasury, or the proper officer,
the remainder now due on said judgment, with interest at
the rate of six per centum, exclusive of damages: provided,
that this act shall not be construed as in any way releasing
the said Charles Short, late sheriff as aforesaid, from the
payment of any damages adjudged against him.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
