CHAPTER 766
An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered
54-808.6, relating to the examination and licensure for physical therapy
assistants and to amend and reenact § 54-809, as amended, of the
Code of Virginia, relating to the issuance of certain certificates.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding a section numbered
elena and that § 54-309, as amended, be amended and reenacted as
ollows:
§ 54-808.6. (a) Examinations of applicants to practice as physical
therapy assistants shall be in one part and shall include subjects as may be
set forth by the American Physical Therapy Association. Each candidate
must submit evidence, verified by affidavit and satisfactory to the Board,
that he or she:
(1) Isa citizen of the United States or, if not a citizen, has filed a
declaration of intention to become a citizen of the United States;
(2) Is nineteen years of age or more;
(3) Isof good moral character;
(4) Isa graduate of an accredited high school or has completed the
full equivalent of a grammar school and a four year high school course;
(5) Isa graduate of a two year college level educational program for
physical therapy assistants which has been approved by the Amertcan
Physical Therapy Association.
(b) The fee for the examination of physical therapy assistants shall
be thirty dollars, which shall be renewable annually, in the same manner as
provided in §54-315.1.

form his duties only under the direction and control of a licensed physical
therapist and the patient’s physician. |
(e) Examinations of applicants shall be taken in the same manner
as examinations for applicants for registration as physical therapists.
§ 54-309. Upon completion of satisfactory examinations under the
rules of the Board, applicants shall be granted certificates to practice medi-
cine, osteopathy, chiropractic, naturopathy, chiropody, or physical ther-
apy, as the case may be, and each certificate shall show plainly on its face
the school or branch of the healing arts in which the holder thereof is per-
mitted to practice, and if a person is licensed as a physical therapy assist-
ant the certificate shall show such fact plainly on its face. All certificates
shall be attested by the signature of the president and secretary of the
Board, respectively.
