CHAPTER 716
An Act to abolish causes of action for alienation of affection, breach of
promise, criminal conversation and to provide that knowingly causing
or contributing to the disruption of a marital relationship shall con-
stitute a misdemeanor; punishment therefor and jurisdiction thereof.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. § 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary,
no civil action shall lie or be maintained in this State for alienation of
affection, breach of promise to marry, or criminal conversation upon which
a cause of action arose or occurred on or after the effective date of this act.
Any person who shall knowingly cause or contribute to the disruption
of a marital relationship shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and punished as
provided for in § 18.1-9, and jurisdiction of such offense shall be cognizable
under the provisions of § 16.1-158.
