An Act for the relief of Russell Foster Thompson.

Whereas, on May twenty-seven, nineteen hundred sixty, while em-
ployed as a State Convict Road Force Guard for the Commonwealth of
Virginia, Russell Foster Thompson, while working in his line of duty, was
permanently injured and disabled when a building which was being razed
by convicts guarded by Russell Foster Thompson collapsed on him; and
Whereas, Russell Foster Thompson was thereafter paid workmen’s
compensation at the rate of thirty-three dollars per week from June three,
nineteen hundred sixty to October one, nineteen hundred sixty-six; and
Whereas, his basic salary at the time of the injury was seventy-nine
dollars and thirty-eight cents per week; and
Whereas, if he were eligible to draw Virginia Supplemental Retire-
ment income he would receive two-thirds of his weekly compensation at
the time of the injury; and
Whereas, it has been determined that he is not eligible to receive any
compensation under the Virginia Supplemental Retirement System at this
time; an
Whereas, it is only right that Russell Foster Thompson be compen-
sated for his loss to the present time as he has no other remedy at law;
now, therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. §1. There is, therefore, hereby appropriated from the General Fund
of the State treasury the sum of eight thousand three hundred eighty-six
dollars thirty-two cents none of which shall be applied to attorney fees,
to be paid by the State Treasurer on warrant of the Comptroller issued as
provided by law to Russell Foster Thompson to compensate him for the
injuries sustained by him in line of duty as set forth above, upon execu-
tion by him of a release of all claims he may have against the Common-
wealth or any employees thereof in connection with, or arising out of,
the aforesaid occurrence.
