CHAPTER 697
An Act to authorize the Department of Conservation and Economic Devel-
opment to acquire part of the area in this State commonly known as
the Dismal Swamp for certain purposes.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
. § The Department of Conservation and Economic Development
is hereby authorized to acquire by purchase, eminent domain or gift, all
that part of the lands located in Virginia commonly and historically
known as the Dismal Swamp which lies east of a north-south line easterly
of the junction of the Feeder Ditch with the shore of Lake Drummond,
together with the waters in such part, or so much of said part and said
waters as the Department deems necessary, and to create thereon a state
park or wild life management area. The Department is authorized to
accept all gifts of land or money that may be made in connection therewith.
