An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered
56-224.1, so as to provide how certain patronage capital shall be re-
turned to the spouses or next of kin of deceased persons by electric
cooperatives.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding a section numbered
§6-224.1, as follows:
§ 56-224.1. When there is held by any electric cooperative, engaged
in the business of furnishing electric service, any patronage capital to the
credit of a deceased person, in an amount not exceeding two hundred
dollars, upon whose estate there shall have been no qualification, it shall
be lawful for such electric cooperative, after one hundred twenty days
from the death of such person, to pay such balance to his or her spouse, and
if none, to his or her next of kin, whose receipt therefor shall be a full
discharge and acquittance to such electric cooperative to all persons
whomsoever on account of such patronage capital
