An Act to amend and reenact § 15.1-286 of the Code of Virginia, relating
to condemnation proceedings by counties, cities and towns; how con-
ducted; procedure in cities.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1, That § 15.1-236 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenacted
as follows:
§ 15.1-236. Condemnation proceedings by counties, cities and towns;
how conducted.—Subject to the provisions and limitations of this article,
proceedings for the acquisition of property by counties, cities and towns in
all cases in which they now have or may hereafter be given the right of
eminent domain may be instituted and conducted in the name of such
county, city or town and the procedure * may be mutatis mutandis the
same as is prescribed in §§ 33-59 to 33-67 for condemnation proceedings
by the State Highway Commission in the construction, reconstruction,
alteration, maintenance and repair of the public highways of the State,
or the same as is prescribed in Chapter 1.1 of Title 25 of the Code of
Virginia.
If the property sought to be condemned is situated in a city the pro-
cedure shall be by petition to the circuit court of the city or any other city
court of record having jurisdiction of condemnation proceedings, or to the
judge of any such court in vacation.
