An Act to amend and reenact § 46.1-124 of the Code of Virginia, relat-
ing to issuance of temporary license plates for vehicles. 9

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 46.1-124 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenacted
as follows:
§ 46.1-124. To whom temporary plates shall not be issued; dealer
to forward application for current titling and registration; misstatements
and false information.—No dealer shall issue, assign, transfer, or deliver
such temporary license plates to other than the bona fide purchaser or
owner of a vehicle, whether or not such vehicle is to be registered in
Virginia. Such dealer shall, when requested, forthwith transmit to the
Division a written application for the current titling and registration
of the purchased vehicle, accompanied by the prescribed fees therefor.
Any dealer who issues such temporary license plates to the purchaser
failing or declining to request that such application be so forwarded forth-
with shall notify the Division of such issuance in the manner provided
in this article. No dealer shall issue temporary license plates to any per-
son possessing current license plates for a vehicle that has been sold or
exchanged; nor shall any dealer lend to any person for use on any vehicle
that he may own, temporary license plates. It shall be unlawful for any
person to issue any temporary license plates containing any misstate-
ment of fact, or for any person issuing or using such plates knowingly
to insert any false information upon the face thereof.
