An Act to amend and reenact § 51-29.8, as amended, of the Code of
Virginia, relating to retirement of judges of county courts.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 51-29.8, as amended, of the Code of Virginia be amended and
reenacted as follows:
§ 51-29.8. Any trial justice, also referred to as county judge, of
any county who has attained the age of seventy years and has served not
less than fifteen years as trial justice, and any trial justice of any county
who has attained the age of sixty-five years and has served not less than
twenty years as trial justice, may retire from active service as trial Justice
upon giving the judge who appointed him, or his successor in office, and
the Comptroller notice in writing of his intention so to do, stating in such
notice the date upon which such retirement will become effective. Any
trial justice or county judge or substitute county judge retiring under
the provisions of this chapter and who is subsequently reappointed
as county judge or substitute county judge to serve as such, may again
retire at any time as may be proper and thereafter shall be entitled to the
full benefits of the provisions of this chapter.
